This geosciences effort would compliment activities we here at the Global Scientific Information and Computing Center, Tokyo Institute of Technology, are currently starting in earthquake engineering in collaboration with Professor Mita of Keio University, the NEES project, the Japanese E-Defense effort, as well as the Grid Technology Research Center at the AIST national lab in Japan. One of the first steps in that effort is to assist incorporation of the Miki Shake table with the NEES Grid. We are pleased to see that your project has strong US partners from UC Davis, Minnesota, USC, UC Irvine, Northwestern, and collaboration with major US projects like TeraGrid and the LEAD severe storm project, and an excellent, broadly-based group of regional collaborators from Australia, China, Taiwan, Sri Lanka and India. Our GSIC center has had longtime collaboration relationship with SDSC, which is the central site for both the TeraGrid and the NEES Grid. In fact we are regarded as one of the premiere Grid centers here in Japan, and have signed an MOU with SDSC a few years ago on mutual collaboration regarding Grid technologies. Hopefully our involvement will lead to further collaborations with Japanese researchers on Tsunamis, the country where the term itself originated from. Also, given the long history of collaboration between you and rest of the Indiana team and our own efforts on Grid computing and the Global Grid Forum, we know that we will be able to build a very productive partnership.
