We appreciate your patience. =============================================================================== Thu Aug 7 2003 Greetings NAS Users, On Thursday 21 Aug the NAS IT Cluster host's and IPG NAS Server's SSH service will change from version 1 protocol preference to version 2. The change improves both performance and security. The hosts affected are: ariel, chapman, dawn, evelyn, fermi, hopper, lomax, lou, ranma, steger, and turing. Some Apple and Windows/NT users may find it necessary to upgrade local ssh client software. Version 1 will be supported for some interim period to be determined. A NASA standard banner will be displayed for all new connections, including secure shell copy (scp). Where problematic, redirection of stderr for scp operations can ameliorate the condition. An example Bourne-shell wrapper to copy file "foo" to host "bar" filename "baz" and redirect stderr to /dev/null is provided here: /bin/sh "scp foo bar:baz 2>/dev/null" Cluster-authenticated trust between nodes will remain unchanged, however, non-Cluster authenticated sessions using version 1 ~/.ssh/identity keys should create and use version 2's new RSA keyfiles (/bin/man ssh-keygen) or force version 1 invocation at runtime (e.g. ssh -1 , or scp -oProtocol=1) if password challenge is to be suppressed.
